Worm(a) A worm is an elongated, slender, soft-bodied invertebrate (an animal that lacks a backbone). Some species of worms are so different from- even unrelated to- each other that they have not been classified under a single group.
(b)Acronym for "write once, read many". A type of optical disc that can be read and reread but cannot be altered after it has been recorded. WORMs are high-capacity storage devices. Because they cannot be erased and rerecorded, they are suited to storing archives and other large bodies of unchanging information. See also compact disc. |
